In the Flow of Water
I am the first drop on your skin
when summer rain begins to fall.
I cool your cheeks,
trickle down your neck,
disappear into the earth—
but never completely.
I dance on rooftops,
drum against windowpanes,
gather in rivulets,
become a stream, a river, the sea.
I lick the cliffs, carve stone into sand,
rest in deep lakes where light cannot reach.
I smell of salt and drenched wood,
of moss and misty mornings.
I carry stories of sunken ships,
of fish no one has ever seen,
of voices that whisper beneath the surface.
My hands are gentle,
my arms relentless.
I can heal and destroy,
carry you or consume you.
Yet no matter what you call me—
I keep flowing.

Im Fluss des Wassers
Ich bin der erste Tropfen auf deiner Haut,
wenn der Sommerregen fällt.
Ich kühle deine Wangen,
rinne den Hals hinab,
verschwinde in der Erde –
doch niemals ganz.
Ich tanze auf Dächern,
pralle von Fensterscheiben,
sammle mich in Rinnsalen,
werde zum Strom, zum Fluss, zum Meer.
Ich lecke an Klippen, schleife Stein zu Sand,
ruhe in tiefen Seen, wo das Licht nicht reicht.
Ich rieche nach Salz und nassem Holz,
nach Moos und nebelverhangenem Morgen.
Ich trage Geschichten von versunkenen Schiffen,
von Fischen, die keiner je sah,
von Stimmen, die unter der Oberfläche schweigen.
Meine Hände sind sanft,
meine Arme reißend.
Ich kann heilen und zerstören,
dich tragen oder verschlingen.
Doch egal, wie du mich nennst –
ich fließe weiter.

I love both versions of your water personification, Elise, and the movement of the verbs makes it flow. I especially love these lines:

Do you know synesthesia? It helps me with painting and poetry. I feel colors. It’s difficult, and it was a very long process to put it into words.
